Well i had a little breakage this last weekend. And this is what i ended up with. the pinion got into my locker a little and i was wondering if what everyone thought. Run it or get a new one?????

Kinda hard to tell from the pick but if it is just visual damage no biggy but I would put the carrier in the housing with out a pinion and put a dail indicator in the ring gear and see if the thing is straight still. I have seen Detroit lockers get bent out of shape with broken axles And then you can't get the ring and pinion set up with out tight spots.

Best of Luck

Looks to me that the carrier is spread a bit, look at the gap above the pin and below, the gap is wider below the pin isn't it?

I took a feller guage and checked that out it has no gap all the way around it. I was thinking about tearing it apart and trying to smooth the punctures up. Expecially where the pin is at.

Well i found out the locker in my 70 will not work in my 80 rear end. Only ways is to drill the 3/8 bolt holes for the ring gear out to 1/2 and machine more off the carrier where the bearing rides at the ends?? anyone done this before??

If that is a detroit, it should work. The 70'S are 1/2" holes and the 80 uses 9/16" IIRC

well i was told by eaton that in if the rear end is a 70HD that it will workfine. But if its a regular 70 you have to machine the ends where the carier bearings ride becase the 80 bearings are wider. I am going to try to stop by the machine shop to day and get them to look at it.
