long crank times

I searched for answers and couldnt find my exact situation. I did a fuel filter and lowered my idle while I was changing oil in my truck. Ever since then, it would crank longer than normal. When it gets warm, it cranks even more (up to 5 second). If I tap the throttle, it fires right up, spudders some, then clears up and zero issues. I haven't seen any performance issues with the engine. I turned my idle back up and its around 850rpm so I don't think its my idle. I don't see any leaks. I thought a fuel leak but if u shut it off and than start it right back up, it still cranks for a longer time. I don't think if I was losing prime, I would lose it that fast. My two thoughts were transfer pump, or shut off solenoid. Just looking for other opinions.

I have not had a chance to check fuel pressure yet.

Thanks!

mines done what you describe. but usually only when im in the drive thru it its off for a very brief amount of time. if it sits for like 5 or 10 min it starts normal. as far as idle mines set at 750 in park, and ive just put a lift pump in and havnt noticed any difference in the crank time. when my lift pump went out, the truck had almost zero FP at idle and it still started fine, just had a studder below 1200 rpm

mine will do the same thing crank for a bit before it starts. I talk to some local guys with 12 valves with p-pumps they all said just set you foot on the skinny pedal to give it a little fuel. Mine starts right up this way maybe 1 crank and running. Just a idea for you.
Thanks

Nature of the beast. Lay your foot on the skinny pedal, do not push it, as the engine cranks you'll feel the pedal drop ever so slightly as the governor allows it and it'll pop right off! Otherwise, lighten up the idle springs in the governor.

I have a 97 215hp truck here with 248K that starts like a VE truck.. Soon as you touch the key it's running!

Wish my 97 180hp auto would start like that?? It takes a few revolutions.. If you touch the pedal it's fires right off but gives a puff of smoke. Would like to get it to start like this 215hp!

Had same issue when I did injectors and GSK, light touch on throttle it would start 1/2 crank. Messed with idle ^, now it starts instantly. Does sound like it idles a touch high for a stick though. I bet my issue is with GSK adjust.

I can idle mine up to 850 ish and starts great but hate the sound of it that fast.. also slams into gear (auto).. I was told a 215 starts better than a 180 pump?

Wow mine idles at 950-1000 and it takes several seconds, and runs like **** for the first minute. I tightened up the gsk and it helped some. Also try sliding the afc forward just a hair.

Also remember that when starting the gov arm goes to full rack. If you're running a plate or afc foot the arm sometimes will not go to full rack. Arm adjustment can cure this. Think of it like a carbed gas burner. Couple pumps before hitting the key. Not to prime fuel, but to allow the arm to drop under the foot and go to starting rack position.

In the design of an rqv-k gov. One of the first calibrations on a test stand.

Thats cool.... But that doesn't help me at all LOL

I mean, what move the afc out of the way to allow full rack travel for start up? boost is the only thing that can move the afc. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?
