Long crank to get started

Started not long after I got my new ecm and new VP.

Turn the key on to run the fass and that may kick on instantly or take anywhere from 5-10 seconds for the fass to kick on, never dies or loses pressure once on.

Once I have the fass running it takes way longer to start than it ever did before. Tends to be when warmer that it won't want to start right off. Cranking can take 2-3 seconds before it fires.

Maybe the ecm isn't grounded real well because I did slap it on there when I got it without cleaning it up.

Ideas?

If it is a 150, unplug the pump the next time it tries to hard start. If the truck fires right up then that usually means that the FASS pump is pushing past the diaphragm in the VP. When that diaphragm gets warm it becomes flexible.

Easy fix is to cut the wire that comes from the 85 pin on the relay and goes to the factory pump plug. Find a run only fuse (power window or other) and run this wire to that fuse. The pump will then kick on after the truck starts.

If you need a wiring diagram e-mail me at geneb@fassride.com.

I will try that. Would it push past a diaphragm on a new pump though? Less that 500miles on this pump. Guess anything is possible.

I am putting a new alternator on today and going to clean up the ecm mounts. Just trying everything

I've seen it happen on new and old pumps. It's really just the material that the diaphragm is made of. When they get warm they have a little flex to them. You can lower the pressure of the pump, but then you have to worry about going too low and not having enough pressure going to the pump.

Good to know. Learn something new everyday.

I did clean the ecm grounds and adjusted/ reset the apps and it seems to be better. Fires on 1/2 a roll and LP kicks on instantly. Done this about 7 times and been perfect. See what happens after a longer run time.
