A guy I know is looking at getting a dodge. Its either a 2000 or a 2002, i dont remember which. I was curious what things he should look for, or be concerned about. I know alot of people say to watch out for the "53" block. But what else?
Im thinking its an 02 because its a 6-speed and IIRC 02 was the first year for that? So let me know what to look for or to check on the truck. What are these known for having problem or issues with?

Like stated its a 6-speed with I believe right around 90K on it. Lady told him its all stock but her husband wasnt there so He has to talk to him to see for sure. Its an Ex. cab long bed Believe the asking price is $14,500.

Thanks fellas

I believe 98 or 99 was first year for the 6sp... only an HO will have a 6sp.

definately look for the 53 block. Oh, and look for a VP44 injection pump... if it has one on it, I would steer clear!!! :p

you can get a 3rd gen for that kind of money these days :o

14,500? wow
that seems a bit steep for something so old.
hell for a bit more, he could buy my 06 with same mileage haha

Thought all the 2nd gen 24v had VP44? Or is that what your saying, stay away from them? lol. I told him to get a 12v or a CR

haha yeah they do all have a VP44, forrest was being a smart ass haa.
he tends to do that LOL

Sorry, but this isn't true. The first 6 speeds came out in late 99. They were on SO pickups and the input shaft was 1 1/4. When the HO came out in 01 they switched the 6 speed input shaft to 1 3/8. Starting in 01 the HOs came with a 6 spd and the SO came with the 5 spd.

01-02 6spd=HO, late99-00=SO. It's all good. we've all been there a time or two.

Price is kinda steep. I got a 2000 2500 with a few mods I will let go for $9100. If you treat the 53 block right it will give you no trouble, but they do require a little extra attention.
