Short bio: 2yrs ago I built (well my $$ Anarchy diesel did the work) an '06 dmax, EFI live, lift pump, mbrp exhaust, trans go jr. Put down 443/815 on dunbars dyno summer of 2010. Got married and sold the truck.

Now I'm looking to build another truck (with the "OK" from the wife) and not sure which direction to go.

Not really looking for a dmax this time around (nothing against them just want something different). I've got around 26k to spend on a truck and about 3k for mods. Been looking at 06 Ford F250's and Dodge 2500's, don't want a dually.

I'm not familiar with the 6.0 Ford, but like everyone I've heard the horror stories about them and not sure if its worth the risk or not. The interior and overall build quality of the Ford does seem better quality than the dodge. Other than the 6.0 motor how is the Ford torq shift trans? If the EGR is removed is there anything else to worry about? By '06 was the head gasket/stud issue addressed? What about a tuner? Which one?

The cummins in the dodge is tried and true so I'm not worried about it at all, but the dodge auto trans are weak. The front ends of the dodges are another weak link, so budgeting for u-joints/ball joints also must be factored into the mod budget. I would prefer a 6spd manual but they are very rare in my area. The interior in the dodges are not very comfortable and somewhat cheap esp in the SLT and lower packages. Now that efi live is availiable for cummins I'm kinda leaning toward them....

I'm open to ideas and opinions from owners here, I'm looking to build this truck for street and towing.

08 Ford, delete and Spartan tune, enjoy 500hp or close to 600 but I think transmissions dislike it.

If you look around I believe you can find in that range. Maybe not a king ranch, but depends on what your taste is.

bought my 08 Lariat fully loaded with 108k miles, low engine hours, and clean Oasis report for $21.5k

running 250hp tune on it and the tranny doesn't miss a lick

yeah, with your budget you can pick up a decent 6.4 or even a modded common rail. Nevermind the "built not bought" motto. In todays economy, some of these built trucks are going dirt cheap
