What kind of assembly lube and oil do I use for breaking in m new cam??

No instructions came with the cam....I was thinking using Redline assembly lube on the cam, and using Royal Purple break in oil for break in, then using my oil of choice with adding stp oil treament for the added ZDDP.

Thought or advise???

F1 sent me his (DonM) Heavy ZDDP...Full Quart for breakin

Crank and run for 20 mins. (no idling) between 1800-2200 rpm's...

Should be good to go!!

EDIT: Forgot, he sent a tube of lube as well to coat the lobes...Not sure on brand

I'd add a bunch of the additive... I was told you couldn't add too much. Not sure what kind of assembly lube we used at school on my motor... it was white and I want to say it was lithium, but I might be wrong. I trust my engine builder, so I'm sure it was good stuff.

ZDDP is best - we use ZDDP+ for the muscle cars & F1 sells a similiar lube.

I have used lubriplate 105. I would just get some break in lube from F1 or hamilton cams. for the cam run in.

I use Torco or Lubriplate assembly lube. Back in the 90's when we still ran the alcohol funny car we had a lubriplate sponsorship for years. Good people.

I think high phos is a critical component of breaking in a new cam since the newer oils have such low levels of such. Zinc just comes along with the chemical formula of ZDDP. There is a world of difference in ZDDP quality, country of origin in which it is produced, and the results one will ultimately get.

I like 2000 or more PPM for break in with heavy springs.

Royal Purple has a really good assembly lube as well thats what we use here for lubing everything on install.

I use Torco Engine Assembly lube, very good, tacky stuff, red in color and sticks to parts like a fly on sh!t. I still add about 1/4 bottle to the oil at every oil change in the puller.
