I need to machine a pocket into the bottom of the block where the 14 mounting bolts go. Basicly just where the tabs or ribs are about .005 deeper than the top of the main bearing caps (after matching the caps heights on the surface grinder). I want to use an endmill that has a radius on the corners of the flutes but would like to know what radius is recommended to avoid the possibility of cracks. I have a couple of nice 1/2" 3 flutes that are .030 radius. Is that enough, or do i need to go with a larger radius?
Thank you.

I have read this post and just dont understand the location,I did my caps yesterday.

I wouldn't go with any less than 3/32 radius in cast iron in that area.

I decided to just take the loss and buy a different girdle that doesn't require machining the block, but still sits under the oil pan.

The first one was from M&J tool. Nice part, just didn't feel like cutting the block with the way my lucks been going.
