With all the additions to my truck recently and adding more electrical parts(FASS and Flex-A-Lite Fans) I figured I better head off a problem before it arose and BOMB my charging system.
For that I contacted Mean-Green Inc here in Pennsylvania as they make a NEW,not rebuilt, alternator that is 205amp and a direct bolt it.Well it didn't come in so we could install it with the fans so I got some time today and did the install. To say I wished it was here while we did the fans is a understatement,LOL.I had to remove the fans as I could not get the long bottom out, dooohhh.
Anyway,I got the old one off and unhooked and retired it to the,who knows if I will ever use it again bin(there is alot of parts from my truck which ended up in there) as it will now be a spare. The new one was a direct fit, utilizing the factory wiring harness and mounts and ws a relatively easy install once I got beyond my fan setiup.
After reinstalling the battery cables and making sure I had the belt straight I went and fired her off.I noticed immediately the difference in alternators on the volt gauge. Before at ilde right of a start it would come up and stay around 13.0-13.4v.The new one after starting went to 13.9 and stayed there and only drew down to 13.4 with all my electricial gadgets on(fans,FASS,headlights,A/C and stereo). Its a nice unit which is a option for those of you who may want to BOMB your charging system next.......Andy
