At what hp levels are you starting to see these meltdowns at? I am looking at an 03 extended cab short box 4x4 automatic. If I can swing it I would like to get it into the mid to low 12's and still tow a race trailer but I dont want to have to worry about a meltdown every time Im out. Is that possible?

Thanks

yes it is possible... anything is with enough $$$

The meltdown can happen at relatively low power levels, not just high ones. It is usually too much duration/timing coupled with the high egts.

Learn from the mistakes of others, do it sensibly and you shouldn't have a problem.

From what I have read the 03 and early 04's are less likely to burn due to different style pistons, its on here somewhere in one of the meltdown threads

Stock CRs melt pistons
As for performance build your truck with good quality parts dont cheap out
tune it properly and dont drive it like you stole it everyday.

meltdowns

are happenin at even stock power levels.. this problem sucks... hence why mine are stock... but these 04.5s and up are more problematic because of third injection event.... stock is safest? not sure.. but this whole thing makes it scary to even wanna mod them
