Mild injector questions

Hey guys,

First of all I am new on here so please take it easy on me as I'm not trying to flame. Just a couple of injector questions.

My truck is a 97 CC 4x4 that is basically stock with 120k miles. (stock plate slid 1/2 way forward, 3k gov spring) I am looking to increase my trucks mpg and have read that a set of mild injectors can help. I use the truck mainly for work and pull trailers often.

1st Question: Do I need to buy some SDX or DDP 50 hp injectors for the increased atomization or can my stock injectors be adjusted to achieve similar results?

2nd: Are DDP Stage 1 or Stage 2's descent injectors? After reading all night on here I get the feeling that they aren't well liked compared to SDX sticks. I'm wanting to keep my stock injectors so when you factor in the core charge, the DDP's are a little cheaper.

Again, not trying to flame, just looking for some advice.

Thanks

Maybe have your stock injectors looked over, buying a 50hp injector would give you what you already have, the DDP2 is also the same orifice size as your stock nozzles.

OK, Thanks. What would they be able to do to them? Do they just make sure they are within "spec" or can the tweak them a little?

Really appreciate the info...

Go sdx. From customer experience and the use of their stuff in shop trucks I can say we have liked them the best so far.

Well, i had some ddp 90s and a 62/71/13 htt with the plate slid and aneroid turned in i got 20-25 mpg all the time just setting the cruise on 1800 rpms so it was about 60-62 mph..

Thanks guys, I bumped my timing to 16 earlier this year. I'll look into SDX.

Thanks

I'm considering something similar. Which SDX injectors would you recommend for getting the best mileage improvement?

I had their 5x.012s when i had a single H1C and was getting close to 21mpg with stock timing. Pretty much stock with a 3k gsk and a tuned afc.

That's a really nice injector, makes good power and mileage too, I've got a 97 5 speed running around in OKC with a set in it.

Have you bumped the timing at all? Bring it up to 18* or so and you'll get a couple mpg.

I've been trying to read up about timing, and it's one of the next things to get done. Will a good diesel shop know where to set it to get the best fuel mileage based on what's been done to the truck, or do I just tell them to set it to a certain number and play a lot of trial and error games until it gets dialed in?

Injectors have the pop pressure spec engraved on them. Mine say "260bar" which equals 3771psi.

Some shops will charge upwards of $50-60 per injector to service them. There's a place here in Houston called M&D Distributors. They charged me $183.91 to clean and adjust mine to 270bar. That's $30each. I have an injector "installation kit" already, so they didn't charge me for the copper washers or horseshoe washer.

Picked them up yesterday:

To be honest, I would have rather bought injectors from SDX. BUT, when my wife and I got married I went along with the idea of combining our bank accounts

True, it IS the right thing to do. I dislike not being able to buy her gifts without her seeing the pending transactions.

So, you bought the injectors as a gift to her, huh? :hehe: Maybe not a good idea. I bought my wife a shotgun for her birthday once. Bad idea...........
