Miss at idle

Got a 01 cummins 24 valve and have a miss at idle. . I recently used seafoam in the intake and had a runaway engine that went past 4000 rpm which is what caused my problems. Bad move on my part but now i am paying for it :badidea:. I put new pushrods in and did a valve adjustment and it was great for one day of pulling my camper and on the way home it started missing @ idle and has just got worse. The pushrods i put in were stock ones from dodge. I am going to check the valve lash when i get home tonight but what else could cause this? I have 1693 code when i do the key trick but havent got it checked @ autozone yet. Anyone know what else it could be if its not the valve lash? I did get 216 code (which is probably what the 1693 is) but truck has been running good other than the miss @ idle. I know my vp44 is going out but didnt know if it is whats causing the miss or something else? I have a used engine coming in 2 weeks and was planning to use the vp44 from it. Other than the miss it runs great anything over 1000 rpm. Is there any way of knowing its something in the valve train without pulling the head? Is the head removal something i can do myself?

It is quite possible that your VP is the cause of the miss. A P0216 code is not a cheap code to get.............

P1693 code is DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM least that what dodge
says dont know if that helps or not

Changed out the VP44 today and still have the same issue. It only misses once its warm and does so randomly until about 900 rpm + and it runs fine. Anyone know what else i can check?

Nope it will miss for a second and then a few seconds later do it again. I dont hear any weird noises when it does it and my rpm will only drop maybe 50 rpm? Sometimes i can kinda hear it but dont see it on the rpm gauge either. After about a min of missing it idles fine again, until the next stop light. If i hold it at 950 rpm and above, the miss is gone.

Injector pop off issue? That would be about the only other thing to cause an intermittent miss. Might be a good reason to upgrade!

If an injector is the problem cracking lines will do no good. My money is on an injector having pop issues at idle but the higher pressures of advanced RPM's helps it out.

Ok im gonna order a set of injectors. Anyone have good luck with rv275s? And where is a good place to get them? I thought about maybe some DDP 75s but if my injectors arent the problem i need to save my $ for a rebuilt head.

How is that not going to help to diagnose a crummy injector? Which ever cylinder drops the least rpm's when you loosen the line will tell you what cylinder has the problem...

If it is a valve seat issue, would it be ok to drive it? If the injectors dont fix my issue should i just leave it parked til i get the head off?

You are correct sir, that came from to many hours upright in a row :bang

If the valve seat is screwed, it's screwed, take it easy on the motor and you should be just fine for a little while.

Well want to try a few more things before i bring it in the shop to get the head looked at. Since i changed out the APPS with a new one, my truck will "high idle" even once warmed up. My ADR does high idle but never does it about 170, until now. I also checked the codes today and get 0500 and 1693 when a week ago i did not get those. Does the high idle maybe have something to do with the 0500 code? Is there any other sensor that would cause the high idle?
Thanks for the help

Isn't P0500 a vehicle speed sensor issue? Like spinning the tires maybe?

P0121 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor Range/Performance
P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor Range/Performance
P1690 Fuel Injection Pump CKP Sensor does not agree with ECM CKP sensor
Sounds to me like there is an issue with the VP and the ECM is not getting info that it expects.
