my buddies truck will start and idle just fine, but when while he is in park he can get on and about 1800rpm it spits and sputters white and black smoke.

while driving rpms get about the same spot and feels and sounds like it misses. truck pulled up codes: p0122 p1693 p0234

its an 02 excab 2wd auto 150 sticks, hotrod vp, 150 airdog, don't have smarty on right now but was doing the same thing with it on.

performance parts were done roughly 5,000 miles ago

Code 122 is APPS voltage too low and 234 is turbo boost limit exceeded. You can check the map sensor plug for corrosion but I would bet he needs a new APPS.

There's this procedure you can find online for resetting your APP. Might try it before replacing it (it's one of those turn the key, depress the peddle, clap your hands, hope it works things) P1693 I believe is just a code that comes up with other codes, doesn't mean anything.

i read to reset the APPS is to turn key ON but not running. and to depress throttle slowly to the floor and slowly release. that sound right?

You're suppose to unhook your batteries for at least 30 mins and let everything drain off. Hook them back up, turn the ignition on and push the pedal to the floor slowly, then let it come back slowly.

The sputtering different coloured smoke tells me it may be something to do with the VP...

Yeah x2 with the smoke thing. Before Id condem the VP I'd check the basics. Drain the filter into a clear jar and take a look at the fuel.

okay. well check the battery disconnect. and the VP huhh? i knew he should have took the time an money to p-pump it. lol

is it possible to rinse out the airdog filters? id hate for my buddy to order new ones.

i believe we found the issue.
the guy that installed the airdog didn't use a sump. so he rigged it, and his rig job came loose on the tank an dirt and other crap got into the tank.

my friend found about an inch or so of mud in the bottom.
hes cleaning out the tank and has two new airdog filters on the way.

:O I would be checking his Airdog all over for contamination, flushing all your lines like rollincoal mentioned. I hope it didn't allow enough sediment to reach his VP.....

if thats the case good luck to the pump and injectors!!! My truck did the same thing and had the exact same codes except i didnt use my fuel tank to store mud lol. No funny but yet kinda funny lol. Anyway it was a bad connection on the throttle pos. sensor. I had to clean that sensor about five or six times before it quit acting up. Also if you need help on recalibrating the sensor just pm me i have done it before its not more then 15 min worth of work and a dc volt meter... and some sockets.
