Last night i my truck lugged down at about 276ft and it down shifted and pulled a couple more feet then something popped. Put it in 2wd and the rear shaft is spinning. Anyways i get to the house and the driver side axle is broke right at the spline. I was wondering if since the drive shaft was spinning and the tires not pulling does that mean i messed up the spider gears. Or is the right side the main pulling side and with a broken axle the left side will not pull????

Also whats everyones opinion on chrome moly axles??? or is there a better way to go??

Since i am in the rearend already is there any recomendations of what else i should replace. Its a 2002 dodge with 70 in the rear. I need a little input before i go back with it and find out i should have done something different.

Thanks,

Were can you get one cheep???

Whats the sway bar all about. Can it go in the junk pile???

Sway bar can go in the junk yard. Good luck finding a D80 cheap. $500 is cheap.

Switch it to an 80. The Pinion on the 70 is funny small.

Ditto, and while your at, toss in a ARB locker and HMR HD37 spline axles and forgetabboutit :) just be prepared to find your next weakest link

Well i am going to have to hang with the 70 in the 2002. But i am going to build a suspension just like you had on the big bad dodge in the rear on my 94.

Scott did you ever get my email about the big bad dodge. I was just trying to check up on it. This is justin trimble i was interested in it when you had it up for sale. I am the one from texas.

Justin, no on the E-Mail, when did you send? The original BBD is in Upstate NY, Joe Gambino is the owner had some issues with the original rebuild but its runing now he just hasn't gottin it dialed in from what I hear. Apparently pulling organization there is way behind the game as well and are messing with him in relation to rules it comes down to were he needs to put a single charger on it for next year.

Well i ended up pulling an axle out of my 94 just to get it back on the road. I am planning on putting a 80 in the 94. And plus i would rather have the weak link be the axle rather than the third member, or a driveline.
