motor not running right

hey about a month ago i was driving home from work and my truck had a huge loss in power and a loud ticking sound. when i got the truck home i noticed a bunch of my valve seals were blown up the valve stem and these seals are only a year old... also the truck will free rev in neutral to 4 grand all day long but if you were to try a boosted launch it revs to 1500 starts to pop and wont rev any higher. to im thinking im going to have to pull my head off to check all the valves and see how the cylinders look. figured id ask if anyone hear might have any idea on whats goin on? thanks
