hey all i just got my truck back together after a makeover. i need to quiet it down a bit right now i am running 4in straight into dual 5in stacks. i was thinkin about bumping up to 5in pipe and either dual 6in stacks or a single 7. anyway what muffler would yall recommend? i just need to take it down a bit for the sake of my kids in the back seat. i was thinkin about the following aeroturbine 4040xl , 5050xl , mbrp , magnaflow , fte w/muffler...any opions? i am shooting for 700hp with the truck if it matters

An Aeroturbine will do a good job of knocking it down without completely killing the diesel/turbo sound. The 5" would probably be better for that HP range. Depending on your setup, it could also help lower the EGTs.

Hushpower. 99.9% of them sound the same IMO and they are all a straight through design for the most part so all of them will work for your goals.

Haha I have a resonator off an 06 megacab, first and then a big magnaflow behind it going to the stacks on my 697hp vp truck! All 4" I always kinda wondered if it would have maybe done 700 with 5" but oh well! Mbrp mufflers are kinda loud, haven't heard many aeros, the magnaflow/diamond eye, mufflers sound pretty good, the perforated core is usually a deeper quiter tone, and the louvered is a little louder, straight pipe sound

I'm also looking for options....two kids in the back seat, single stack, "daddy, your truck is too loud" coming from the back seat for 100 miles. LOL

Some jackass, don't remember who, told me to get two coffee cans, fill them with steel wool, and weld them together.

I've also heard that you can essentially make a resonator by welding a stick of grain auger into a pipe. For no more than that would cost me...I've always wanted to try it. I got a muffler from a guy on her for free that was a straight through design, 5" in and out, and it took the WOT in the center of the cab from 106 db to 100 db (IIRC). I'm almost to the point of wanting to silence it completely and just let the turbo sing me to sleep.

Subscribing to read more options. :D

ok then, have fun damaging your kids' hearing!

Forrest, are you unhappy? You sure seem to have a stick in your ass lately. :hehe: What's wrong man?

Many trucks over 1000 with 4" exhaust....5" is overkill and just for looks on 99.9% of trucks.

Very wise. If I had it to do over, 4" all the way. The 5" in a PITA to route and handle.

I still want to do this to my truck no matter what anyone else thinks about it.

i had the idea to do that, becuase i hadnt ever seen that, right after i told someone bout it, i seen the pic of that truck :(

That's ok ed. I had an original idea to mold a GFI into an extension cord years back...then went to Lowes and saw them for sale. That cost me about $4 billion. :D

Definitely agree that the 4" will be just fine, but I've always been curious about true back-to-back run results between 4 and 5 on higher HP rigs. Not necessarily HP wise, but temps and other numbers.

I haven't done any comparisons lately, but back in the day my regular 4040 lowered EGTs by about 200 degrees. At the time, it had mild mods and it used to be a 4" straight pipe from the turbo back.

I started with a 5" straight pipe then added a muffler with a 4" core (it was free so what the hell, right?) and I saw absolutely zero EGT difference and no seat of the pants power difference.

I run a Banks 4" exhaust with full muffler at over 1k and don't have any heat issues. Pleasant sound down the road. Twins cut down the noise a bit.
