I straight piped my truck a few years ago and lately I've been thinking about putting a muffler back on. The big thing is driving in the neighborhood and also firing it up to let it warm up. It's not a big deal during the day, but right now I'm on day shift and I leave for work around 6AM, so I'm sure it's waking up the 9-5ers.

Are there any mufflers that tone it down but still flow as well as a straight pipe?

What he said. I put a hushpower muffler on mine and it toned the exhaust done very nicely and actually dropped my egt's 50-100* cruising.

How about actual noise output from the tailpipe?

I really don't hear it in the cab. I'd just like to be able to fire the truck up and not feel guilty about waking up the neighbors.

haha get a 3rd gen :hehe:

I had all my neighbors thank me after I went from the 12 valve straight piped to the CR :owned: :bang

holy crap, $230 for that Hushpower muffler, that is retarded! I was figuring $50-60 for a muffler.

Sound is personal preference I guess. Everyone likes the way mine sounds.
I thought the price was ridiculous for a muffler also, but I'm glad I went with the Hushpower now.
Good sound at idle and full throttle, flows good and no drone. I couldn't tell about EGT reduction since I went with a different turbo, 3-pc. manifold and 4" exhaust at the same time I put the muffler on.
I'm not saying there isn't a cheaper muffler out there that wouldn't do the job, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Spend your money 1 time.......

I agree, but I mean it's just a muffler and I don't see why it would cost so much. It's not even stainless!

The Corsa muffler is $325!

I'm gonna call Rip and see what he sells with the Diamond Eye kits since that's what I have. Sure I want something that sounds good and lasts, but I don't want to have to rob a bank to afford it either!

I had a diamond eye. The hushpower is quieter overall and has a better sound.

Some of the guys here are saying the Donaldson muffler is a nice one. Gives it a big rig sound. I guess over on TDR they really like it too.

I just can't see spending over $200 on a muffler... I don't get why it's so much $$.. If it was stainless at least that wouldn't be quite so bad.

These mufflers are big pieces of metal. There's a good chunk of material in there.

i got the nelson version..flows over 3000 cfm. sounds good but quiet..85 bucks. search donaldson mufflers and get the 4''that flows the highest....fleetparts got em for less than 100 bucks

Dang. Now that's a cheap exhaust. Cheapest I've found is $300-350 from summit. Now I understand why you don't wanna pay much for a muffler LOL.

I had a Donaldson, it was too quiet. Joe D recommended the Walker 21471 - 4" x 24". Great sound & no freeking louvers in the flow!!!
