6th is making some weird noises! Grinds into gear. The double disk rattle is heard over idle.

I'm driving home in 5th.

15,000 miles, 9 months or so

Don't feel bad, I am on number four. Damages so far to date:

Input shaft
(2) 6th gears on counter shaft
6th gear on main shaft
5th gear on counter shaft
Front bearing housing.

Good luck with it. Tranny number 3 only lasted about a month for me. (roughly 4K miles)

Yeah, I may only be around 700whp. You are much higher on fuel

however, my trans is still under warrenty, if they (zumbrota) have one on the shelf. May be up and running Monday!

Next trans I'll be sure to see about cryogenic treatment. Or just get an auto already.

seems the lower gears are fine, but you have to be easy on the power shifting into 6th and the low rpm high tq bursts in 6th...thats what really stresses those things.

A really good billet auto will out last that damn stick anyday. Sure its more money up front, but the money you've probably spent you could've had a billet Goerend. The auto will always be better anyway.

I've never loaded 6th under 2200-ish rpm. I typically shifted into 6th at around 65mph..

However, I wouldn't call it "power shifting" as I always hit the clutch for every gear when rowing fast, but yeah, engaging it fast is defiantly what I do. Just ask Unbroken. :) Damn, I'm wondering how I'm going to full the holes from his nails in the ohhh chit handle :)

the sad part is everything shifts perfect in all the other gears. since 6th started to fail I kept boost under 10.. in 5th at 65 boost is 8 due to 2300rpm. I feel no weird slow downs or vibrations.

Just lots of trans rattle and 6th grinds when you engage it and makes a popping noising under load in 6th.. Even if you have the t-case in Neutral, parked. and you run tough the gears with the clutch, still grinds 6th.

You broke it again. Sigh you said it was acting weird in Chicago when you passed Rich. Hard on equipment you are.

Sometimes it would grind, somtimed it wouldn't.

I have a suspicion that it may be an installation error. If the imput shaft barring is outa round. Hmmmm well that ammco for ya.

Im not sure a manual can be that reliable at 700hp on a daily driver if you like to use the power. It just seems like it is too much for them.

Im not sure you can beat an OEM transmission. They just seem to build them the best from the factory, but im sure they are big $$ from the factory too.

That is a lot of power and a lot of torque. Especially if you are "shock loading" the transmission by kind of dumping the clutch and being on the throttle hard when you get it into gear. It may last longer if you shifted and completely disengaged the clutch, and then let it eat. Of course that isnt as fun though:hehe:

my buddy that makes 450hp has blown 3 4500s apart in a year. sound like u guys have the same luck. he is now going auto

my last 5600 met its demise on a hard shift from 5-6, using the clutch, but still banging the gears hard racing a buddy's turbo eclipse. it kinda made some weird noises going into 6th then bang. i coasted off the road and it was stuck in gear even tho the shifter was loose like it was in neutral.

i was sitting there idling and if i let off the clutch the truck would stall. so i shut it down, and had to man handle the shifter to get it to pop into 2nd, then everything seemed normal again, until i shifted to 6th and it grinded.

not a big deal i thought, just have to deal with the grind now. next morning i was going to the shop to work on some trucks, grinds going into 6th, im cruising along, go to speed up coming onto the highway and im in 6th, and give it some go juice. boost come up and POP! one bang and 6th gear is my 2nd neutral again. it broke the small synchro ring in half, 6th didnt engage anymore but no teeth and no parts went thru the tranny. i drove it like that for the next 4-5 months til i got a replacement.

Never got a good pic of the ware on the teeth. but it's very apparent they were only contacted half the surface area.

that magnet at the bottom of the trans definitely played a roll in letting me drive around! :)

Well, this has been a LONG week...

Parts are back from cryo and the trans is going together as I type this. The Logistics are just insane again.

So it looks like Monday evening I'll be rolling with cryo'ed parts.

Well trans is in hand. Zumbrota bearing and gear took care of the trans for me. Total price for the cryogenic work on 5th 6th and bearings was $375

They even repainted it. ;)

Contact ram boyz or pure diesel power for prices on these remans

I'll keep tabs for everyone on how the cryo and bluing work out

Well, not sure if it's the old parts and just a new 6th gear... or what..

But this rebuild is SMOOOOTH. Feels better then before I took it to ZBAG.
