I have reacquired my old 2001 QCLB 2wd truck. It currently has 344xxx miles and a bad transmission(auto). I'm thinking about pulling the eng & trans and gong through them. The end goal is a daily drver with as much power as I can reliably make, must get good mileage, and be able to tow my 12,000# race car and trailer.
On the trans the options are a beefed converter and a shop rebuilt trans, or a beefed convertor and me rebuilding the trans and adding any parts that will extend life.

Engine wise ebay has overhaul kits w/ pistons and gaskets for 800. What mods, injector etc looking for bang for the buck here with reliability and economy equally as important as power.

What about swapping in a complete 03-05 drive train anybody tried this? Seems like the 03-06 CR engnes make more power easier, but is there a downside?

Also need to upgrade the interior can the front seats from the 04-09 be made to work? I have an upholstery guy who can use the back seat upholstery and adapt it to the 2001 rear frames.

Need some discussion so I can get some opinions and sort it all out......bart

I think their is a stand alone computer out for the common rail, I can't remember who makes it, That is the route I would lean towards if you want a quieter diesel, if you don't mind the noise I would rebuil/buy another 24 valve. I like the 01 seats better than the 04 I test drove.

How much do you want to spend? Your motor probably is good.

If you'd be interested I'd sell ya my truck in my sig. Dynoed 583 at the tires last time on the dyno. I totaled it out last december, all body damage, passenger side. I'm still driving it. Just an idea if ya want a motor tranny combo. I can give ya specs if you're interested.

Don't mess with the Ebay rebuild kits... I can almost guarentee that you won't need pistons. I would just put new rings on the old piston and just put new bearings in the rods. And to be honest, you probably don't need that... As for bolts on to make the most reliable towing power I would look at a set of twins, most potential power that you can use hooks to a trailer...

What is your budget?
