I'm trying to make 600hp and still tow with it. Truck is a 97 12v automatic. I'm going with twins of course, but not really sure which ones are going to do the trick. Thinking about a 62/71/14 on top and a s400 with a 73 wheel and a 1.15 a/r on the bottom, or maybe an hx60? Not sure what the advantages of the 13ss housing would be? Fueling is goin to be tricky too, 5x.014 or
5x.012? Need some opinions, not trying to waste abunch of money doing it twice!

How much are you trying to tow? Brett's at 700 0n a single 64/71/14 Super B Special and it tows pretty nicely. With less injector it would be even better.

at the minimum 5x14's what's the near impossible part? A lot of trucks have done what your asking, why not just go with a S475?

I'm towing 10-12k in the mountains! With that load in decent grades, I figured it would be extremely hard to keep the heat down! If one of you can point me in the right direction please do!

What is going to be the diff. beside price? i can get the above s473 i guess you would call it for under 800 new.

your looking at the same for a S475 and it would help a little better with the heat

the advantage of the 62/71/13ss if the fact that the turbo will spool faster than the 62/71/14. the disadvantage is that the 13ss housing is more restrictive at the high rpm range so i would suggest running the 13ss housing with a external waste gate to allow the exhaust not to build up drive pressure at the higher RPMs.

i have already planned on running external gates...what kind of rpm diff are you talking about in spool time for the 13ss?

TMONEY, Have alot of people achieved that power range while towing that weight in the thin air?

i haven't found the s475 for that price? Where are you buying from. I have a tax id and business license.

with the smoothness of the housing compared to the cast iron housing and the tighter housing it spools 200-300 rpms quicker which will hell keep things cooler when towing. another thing to look into is an after market cam it will also help with egts when towing and the spool up of the turbos.

between the 2-300 rpms and a cam ought to help a little too that should help clean up some fuel! What cam profile would you recommend without haveing flycut pistons?

Engineered Diesel 62/68/14 with a S475. I run the 62/68/14 as a single now, and will be building the twins soon. Chris at E.D. wants to set up my S475 with a 77 or 78 comp wheel, with a 1.15 a/r turbine with their race cover.

I am doing this combo and Chris at E.D says that will be good for high 700s.

I have ran a 62/65/14, 64/71/14/64/74/14.

The 62/65/14 was a GREAT towing turbo, byt sucked for racing. It ran out of top-end to fast.

The 64/71/14 was a nice Daily Driver turbo. Pulled nice, but was alittle laggy. I tow a 30' travel trailer and you would have to drive with the pedal to keep EGTs down.

The 64/74/14, AWESOME drag racing turbo, laggy as all hell and was useless to try to tow with.

Now, I have the E.D. 62/68/14 with E.D.s "super62" wheel and their race cover. I just took a trip with our 30' Travel Trailer weighed in 12.5k.
This is THE BEST turbo to date. Spools GREAT, still have to watch EGTs but not as bad as the other two.

To give you an idea about power, I raced a buddy who runs a 09 Mustang that constantly pulls 13.2-13.3 1/4 mile times. We raced 3 times and I beat him by 2-3 cars each time in the 1/4. The CompD calculator says my truck is between 525-550hp.
I am running a set of Westons 5x.012" injectors with some work. The truck the way I have it tuned is CLEAN at WOT. I have a slight haze at WOT.

You can get brand new S475s for $585 from here.

have you bought from this company before? and also do you think the 1.32 ar is alittle big?

Yes, I have that S475. I know Forrest Nearing buys from them, and a few other members. They are a good company.

As far as the 1.32, thats what everyone runs. If you were to buy a twin kit, thats what you would get.

i was looking at the 1.15 do you think the 1.32 would be better? Also what would be you opinion on the top turbo for the twins? I see what you are running now, but do you think it would work in my situation? also what is your opinion on inj.? Do you think i can make that 600hp plust mark and tow in the thin air with it?

oh...thanks alot for the link! any good places to by the top from at a resonable price?

yes i did, and thanks. Yes i guess i got confused, you pointed me toward a 1.32 ar and e.d. recommended 1.15, that is what is was refering too. and as for the injectors you are running 5x.012 now are you going to continue to run those with the twins or are you going to 5x.014? I don't know where you live, but the thin air in the mountains makes a diff., that was one of my other questions. I didn't know if you bought your top from someone and then sent it to him for the wheel and housing. Thanks again sorry for the confusion

Borgwarner part #171702 is s475 I just picked one up new for $575 right down the road from my house. A 62/71/13 with s475 is a slick set of twins, even a hx40 with s475 could do what your looking for with external gates.

1.32 all the way!!!!!! borg warner part #171702 is what you would be after.
