So my truck has done this before buy lately the problem is becoming more severe and lasting longer and I'm unsure of what to even start checking, this post may be a little on the long side but I will try to be as descriptive as possible.
About 6 months ago the truck began to have a problem starting, would turn the key to the on position, everything would be fine, hit the key to bump the starter and nothing, everything just dies but the interior lights go very dim and the passenger air bag off indicator in the dash lights up very dim. Put the key in the off position and the ctm (Central Timing Module) underneath the dash begins to click loudly. I would pop the hood, and disconnect both batteries and usually bump the key a few times with the batteries disconnected. Than reconnect them and try it again. Sometimes it would fix it right up, sometimes it might take 3 or 4 attempts for the truck to not lose power, than it would start and run just fine. It hasn't done it in probably 2 months but did it twice today and once the other day.
The past 2 times today were a real pain and I was actually worried the truck wasn't going to start, but I tried a few different things to troubleshoot, here's what I noticed.
1. I started tapping on the ctm and one time the lights briefly lit up before going dim again, but it only did it once and I couldn't replicate it.
2. Disconnecting the 2 plugs in the bottom of the ctm didn't solve anything, the light on the air bag indicator was still dim while it was disconnected.
3. Once the batteries are disconnected and reconnected everything acts normal, lights and all, until you turn the key to run, sometimes it starts up normal, sometimes it dies again.
I've checked all possible fuses and changed one of the 40 amp engine fuses after an issue about 2 months ago with one. Anybody with any help or ideas is greatly appreciated as the truck is my daily driver and I hate worrying if its going to turn over or die when I hit the key. Thank you.

Borrow a pair of batteries from a friends truck that you know are good. Sounds like a post connection issue (internal)

So it sounds like a battery issue to you? I was actually thinking that because the other day when it did it while the ctm was clicking I could hear the passenger battery making a noise, like a really quiet low pitched hiss, but I was unsure if that could just have been cause there was a short somewhere else or not.

I chased a similar issue for weeks on a corvette. In my case the battery had a bad post and it would only hold enough amps to run the radio.

At any rate you are losing voltage somewhere, keep a multimeter around. Next time it acts up touch nothing, start checking to see where your voltage stops at.

I have a 07 that did somewhat what urs is doing when i cranked it it would dim the ligjts to almost off and start sometimes and sometimes not. I replaced the batterys and only made a lil difference so what fixed my issue was i had to take a die grinder and clean the inside of my battery terminals tp where they was from dark gray to a shinney silver and never had another problem

Ok I will try that next time the truck does this. I also noticed the passenger side battery is leaking acid out of the top of the battery and they have a 3 year warranty so tomorrow I may just get at least 1 of them replaced. I will also try cleaning the inside of the terminal connectors as well thank you. Does it sound at all like a possible ground issue? Sorry for all of the questions i'm just trying to cover all of my bases cause nothing is more annoying than going out to hit the key and everything just going dark.

Im aware thanks. It just sucks cause they are only about a year old, I will change both if 1 ends up being bad. Thank you.
