Need help with a 99 hydro booster

I started a thread a few days ago about using an 02 hydro booster and master cylinder on a 99.

I got an 02 VIN and called the local dealer to get the part numbers and pricing.

HB was $295
MC was $790

Holly crap, that's pricy!

I then asked him to check the part numbers for my 99 VIN. He told me they are different part numbers (which I figured), and that my 99 didn't have a hydro booster, only anti lock.

Can anybody confirm this? I think he's either full of it, or doesn't know what he's talking about.

If my 99 doesn't have a hydro booster, can I add an 02 hydro booster and master cylinder?

Lastly, who has better prices on these parts?

1999 model here. Hydro for sure. Just replaced an old leaky unit. I bought a unit from OReillys and haven't had an issue.

I'll look up the parts interchange Thursday when I return to work for you.

Any idea what the difference is between 99 and 02? I added rear discs, so I'd like to swap an 02 hydro booster and master cylinder because the 02s had rear discs.

As far as I know there is no difference. I have an 01 with rear disk. I will go look at my friends 99 and tell you for sure. Did you call auto zone and ask them the part numbers for a 99 and 02? See if they list them as 2 different parts.

I asked the parts guy at dodge, but he was pretty much useless. He was the one that told me the 99 only had an abs valve, and no hydro booster.

Let me know if they look the same. Also, while your at if, will you look to see if the master cylinder is the same?

It was 2001.5 that they started with the disc brakes. I swapped them onto my 99 wit no problems. The 99 and 01 MC part numbers are the same at advance. The hydroboost unit behind the MC is only around $80 from advance too...

Thanks! That's good to know. There is no way that I'd pay the dealer $790 for the stock master cylinder!

It is the vacuum pump and p/s pump that get pricey. That MC must be gold plated and come with a lifetime supply of brake fluid for $790...

Does anyone have a picture of the brake system with the master cylinder, hydro booster and power steerming pump?

Here is the hydroboost and MC. I don't have one of the p/s and vacuum pump laying around. It is a straight forward setup. The P/S pump goes to the hydrooboost (high pressure threaded line) then down to the steering box (high pressure threaded line on top of the steering box). Both have a return line to the P/S Pump (low pressure lines, clamped).

Thanks Hydroshok! I called Kragen, and they confirmed that it is the same part number from 99-2002. They have a reman hydro booster for $189 and a new MC for $62. I ordered the hydro booster first.

Just FYI since I said I would look this up today at work:

According to the parts interchange system I use, the MC and HYDRO on the 99 were used until 7/04/00 of the 2001 production year. Which would represent the switch to the disc brake rear end.

I do not have interchange information regarding aftermarket reproduction parts, such as those from Advance Auto and the like.

Ktown,
Do you have part numbers for both for the 01 production year?

I was told that the parts are the same through late 01 when the 3rd gen came out.
