I had a diesel engine mechanics class last semester at college. It was very basic and I really didn't learn anything new in it. For our semester "project" we got into groups and each had to completely tear down and reassemble an engine. We got to take our pick of engines. We chose the biggest one which was an inline 6 cylinder engine of some sort. I still have no clue what type of engine it was or what it came out of. It was an oddball for sure and there were several things about it that I found to be interesting/out of the norm. Im mainly just curious to see if anyone knows anything about what kind of motor if could have been. Here are the details...

1. The injection pump was part of the block casting
2. It had flat top pistons, the pistons had no bowl at all
3. It had a factory individual runner intake manifold
4. It didnt have main caps like most motors I have seen. The mains were part of the block casting and the crank slide out of the back of the motor kind of like a camshaft does.
5. The engine was navy in color

Anybody have any ideas?

A lot of those features sound like Kubota to me-mainly the injector pump and crankshaft design.

How bid the engine was?

Was the crank on roller bearings?
Was the block with welded sections (cast iron)?

...forgot about deutz....:bang

Look anything like this?
