Ok i orderd a bolt on cam but the gear acts like it has to be pressed on? The cam has the bolt and threaded part for the bolt and retainer. How hard should the gear go on a bolt on cam. Should it just slip on or is a b*tch to get on? THanks

Put the cam in a freezer for a couple hours and put the gear in the oven for awhile.

It will be still be hard to get on.

so a bolt on cam still has to be pressed on? Ican just put in a cooking oven and a regular freezer? what temp?

Put the gear in the oven, don't go over 300 degrees, 20-30 minutes should do it. If it's anything like my Helix was, I didn't even cook the gear, I pressed it back on. It went on pretty easy.

Throw the cam in a normal freezer for 20 mins and the gear in the oven at 250* for 20 mins. Pull them out and the gear will fall on and make a nice metallic clink noise. That's how I did mine. Easier than cracking a beer.

as long as it cooled slow it should be fine rigt? I got it by the way I talked to a guy at cummins and he said 350 for 1hr and a half but it didnt go on so i huried up and put it back in and turned it to 500 for 10 mins. also put the cam in the freezer. Hope it doesnt break now.

Ok guys got my cam in and put my new pushrods in and i noticed that number 2 exhaust and number 3 intake are up and everything else is down. They are sitting on the lobes so there down. I havent done an overhead yet but I didnt know what ya all thought of this? THanks

Ya they are. I still have the side cover off. Does anyone have any idea why those 2 are the only ones up? Any help would be great. THanks

Push them back down. Some of them might still be pulled up after the cam install. Just a guess

Turn the motor over by hand some, about 20 degrees or so, then back again. See if they move.

Tallest parts of the lobes have to show themselves somewhere, just don't remember if it's those on #1 TDC...
