Backstory: Truck died the other night, when i tried to rev it up to keep the rpms up, the truck didnt didn't even recognize me giving it throttle, and coasted to a stop and died. Talked to FASS and guys on here (after i realized my FASS wasn't running) and took the red wire that plugs into the ecm (from the fass) and ran it to the power windows fuse, voila, fass works now. Started the truck up, and it still does not even recognize me giving it any throttle. Can't rev it up, can't drive it nothing. Along with that, my oil gauge, doesn't work and everytime i go out to the truck the batteries are dead. Thinking maybe the ecm is fried, but before i swap it out i need to find out why it fried and keep it from happening again. I'm all ears here guys, i've been workin on this damn truck since last thursday and keep thinkin i've fixed it but i need to get to the root of the problem and back on the road. Thanks soooo much in advance for any pointers, tips, places to start, anything.

Do you run a relay between the ecm and the fass?

Do you have any other electronics that could take a large draw that don't have relays?

I do have a relay, but i cut the red wire off of the fass harness that plugs into the ecm and ran it to the power window fuse and took care of the fuel pump not running problem. one of my buddies said it sounded like something is grounding out and/or the ecm is fried. But not real sure where to start with diagnosing either of those. Whatever it is is draining my battery, causing me too have no throttle response whatsoever, and my gauges arent working.

So the truck starts, but you have no throttle control and no gauges on the dash?

And you had to bypass the ECM for power to get the FASS to run.

I would probably start with the ECM. Do you have a friend with a 99 ish ECM that you could borrow and see what happens?

correct on everything that's wrong with it, and no i dont know anyone around me with the same truck configuration. I'm just wondering why the ecm blew out of no where. Should i look for something grounding out, or is it common for them to go bad and i just slap another one on it? P.S. i HATE wiring and chasing ground outs/grimlins. But i need the truck up and running and i need to do it right.

what have you installed recently that is electronic? id start there, and check the wiring..

nothing. i put a couple of used (new to me) batteries in about a month and a half ago, and all has been well, until my truck died the other day. got the fass rewired but soon found that was not my only problem. Just drivin down the road, lost all throttle response and fass and the truck shut off.

i dunno man, that sounds to me like an ECM issue.. you may be able to pick up an ecm cheap on fleebay, and get Bob Wagner to help you out with getting it calibrated for your truck.. ive got an extra ecm out of a 99 auto actually...

Take your battery's red terminal loose. Get a digital multimeter and put it in DC amp mode. Connect it between the terminal and the post on the battery. Start in the highest amp mode on the meter. Then if it doesn't read too much (higher than the cut-off for the smaller setting) go to the lower setting. What you need to find out is how much current is being pulled when the truck is off. Next, start unplugging things one at a time and see if the draw goes away. If you are wondering why and ECM just fries out of nowhere, quit worrying about it. I happened to me. If you can't find the draw by unplugging the FASS and ECM or any aftermarket wiring you've added, start with relays and then fuses. You'll eventually find it. If you've got a short on the power wire to the ECM, it may not be fried, it may just be suffereing from low voltage. Good luck.
