Did a search and didnt come up with to much detail. What are you guys doin for the hook up on autos? Is the a wire to tap off that gets signal when its in neutral? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure fpp rules allow it to be a manually operated switch located on the shifter. Basically you back up to the sled, put it in neutral, and turn the light on. Have to double check on that tho.

I was thinking a lot of aftermarket auto shifters have a neutral light wired in that you could hook in to, but i may be wrong on that.

Im pretty sure the stock tranny/shifter should have a wire coming off of the round looking connection on the side of it. I think it has 3 wires coming out of it. It has to know when the truck is in park or neutral so it can start. Id get someone in the truck and start it, and get under it with a test light to see which one is sending the signal. Or someone on here may be able to tell you.

Run 12V to the coil of a relay, and tap on to the wire of the neutral safety switch to complete the ground, then wire what ever relay you want to the relay.

I was thinking about checking the starter relay, shouldnt that only power in park or neutral, if so i can tap off that for a relay then. Z stroken i was looking at a diagram of the switch today and wasnt shure it it was gonna work the way its wired in there, but the diagram i had was a bit confusing it self.

Well i wired up my lights on the starter relay. You can tap off the ground post( the post that is closest to the firewall) and use that as the ground for the trigger. Works perfect. Lights are on in neutral and park go out in reverse or any drive gear. I think this my be the easiest way to accomplish this with a stock shifter, or even a manual.

Does the light stay on when the truck is shut off?

As long as the key is on it will stay on. The truck doesnt have to be running and they still work.
