Have a 98 12v manual need to put a neutral saftey light on it but cant seem to figuer out the best way. Can i get some input on how you did it? i thought about just doing it on the clutch but i dont think that is legal.:bang

Find the back up light wire in the harness back by the tail lights and hook it up that way...Hook up the pos.from the light to the truck harness and the ground to the frame.. Iv dont quit a few like that and works well!!!

He wants a neutral light not reverse light. All we ever needed was to show that it was in reverse.

yeah i need a saftey light so when i back up to the sled the person puting the hook in knows that i am not going to pinch his hand

yeah...when it in neutral the light goes out.... Thats what iv always needed!?!? Differant rules!?!?!?!?!

The light would also go out if it was in a forward gear.

Most rules call for a light to be on when in Reverse to keep hands out of harms way. Are you sure your reading the rule right? What organization is asking for this?

Our org. says that the light has to be on when the truck is in neutral so it is safe for the guy hooking the hitch to lean between truck and sled. you could do it off the shifter with some kinda contact pressure switch. Say make a ring around the shifter when you go into neutral it takes pressure off the switch and the light comes on.

IV hooked and unhooked alot of trucks in my time and id think you'd be worried more bout the truck coming back and pinching you between the back of the truck and the front of the sled!!! No going forword... But thats just me!!!

Mine comes on when its in neutral, all the big org. say it has to be that way, NTPA,PPL,ect. its so the guy knows that the truck is out of gear and not going to back over him, if you cant see a truck backing up you shouldnt be hooking it up. Alot of trucks still have back up lights but the neutral light has to be directly over the hitch and some times different color.

Our 2wd gasser is setup the same way. We mounted some sort of spring switch (looks like a curb feeler of some sort) on the side of the tranny hump on the floorboard. Then depending on which tranny we have in the truck at that time, Say with our 5spd ( 2nd gear and reverse shift up or forward) we will but the spring stick behind the shifter. When in nuetral, the shifter will hit the spring stick, thus activating the switch. With our 4spd we have the spring stick infront of the shifter because 2nd gear and reverse are on the bottom.

I have seen them for remote starter kits. It is basically four limit switches surrounding the stick. They are wired in series so if anyone of them is tripped, no continuity.
