new to cummins

hi i am looking at a 1999 ram 2500 4x4 truck with a 24 valve cummins motor with a 5-speed manual trans. the truck has 192,000 miles on it how many miles are too many on a cummins. and what is the difference between a cummins with a silver valve cover with red letters compared to cummins motor with a black valve cover with silver letters on it? thanks.

some one changed the valve cover. my 01 has 440k on it my 91 680k on it.
if you treat it right it will last. it your beat it like your red headed step child it will haunt you till you die. :ylsuper:

I think it was 98 and 99 only with silver valve covers and they went to black in 2000. My 01 has 260k on it and smokes some blue on a cold morning but once it's warmed up runs great and my 93 has 340k.

Yeah my 99 has a silver and my 00 had a black one on it

190k is nothing to worry about.

check to see if it has an aftermarket lp on it might save you some $$$ in the future
