Hello everyone, this is my first post, hopefully I put it in the right area.

I just bought a 95 3500 DRW, Long Bed Club Cab 4x4 5spd, 4.10's. 16.5mpg mostly highway @ 60-65mph.

I bought it from a used car dealer who didnt know anything about it so I'm unsure of exactly what has been done to it but here's the mods that I can see:
-K&N intake & Banks Twin Ram, it has the WH1C turbo and it appears stock with stock wastegate (But I dont know too much about them).
-It must have a fuel plate since it can school bus in 3-5 gears up to 22250-2500 rpms or so.
-I suspect it has a 3k gsk, and maybe some pump mods or injectors, as well as adjusted wastegate. I only have a 30lb boost gauge and it pegs it easily. Pyro's at freeway cruising are at 600, but going up a 6% +/- grade flooring it, they only get up to 1000-1100.

Sorry for the long details but I'm looking for input on what you think it has for mods based off what I described, and more importantly where to go with my mods for more power & speed.
 
does it have the banks big head wastegate? the twin ram was sold seperate and in a kit with fuel plate, 14cm housing, big head wastegate etc....

does it full fuel all the way to 3000 rpm or does it fall off after 2500?
 
WH1C turbo's only came stock on 89-91.5 Cummins trucks. Ur 95 has an Hx35 as a stock turbo
 
Thanks guys. I have been doing a lot of reading, there's a lot to learn.

I pulled mt star wheel plug and it was toward the front, so I cranked it a turn or two away from the engine and that seemed to help a lot with the smoke and appeared to be a little quicker. :drive:

I also Pulled the AFC, It does have a Banks Plate in it.

The waste gate appears stock, as is the exhaust so the previous owner likely only added the intake, plate, and twin ram.

I bought a new isspro boost gauge (prior one only went to 30lbs) I'm peaking right about 30-32psi under hard acceleration.

So how do I get more power without killing my MPG completely?

I'm thinking 4" turbo back straight exhaust, 3kgsk, #100 plate, boost elbow to raise boost a little (is that how I raise it?), and see how that is then go from there.

Wrong. The h1c was the 89-91.5. Turbo, wh1c was 91.5-96? He could very easily have a wh1c

i thought only 94's had wh1c's... 91.5-93 had non-wastegated h1c's which are bigger than the 89-91h1c's. the wh1c has a hx35 compressor wheel if im not mistaken.
 
you've been a member for three years before posting? It seems you've done some reading during that time.:woohoo:
 
plug your waist gate with a bolt and hose clamp, the stock gate is factory set to 32 psi. i doubt you have injectors or delivery valves because your egt would be higher. and it sounds like the egt probe is tapped in the down pipe so you have to add 200 degrees

Yes lots of reading. My brother originally got a 12v in 98 and he's not so computer savy so I've been helping him, and after learning about them I decided I had to have one.

Pyro is tapped into exhaust manifold pre-turbo. If I completely plug it will that cause my turbo to over boost potenially harminf or shortening its life span? I read stocker's are only really good to 35psi, but can go as high as 40.

straight pipe ur exhaust free up some egts

Thats exactly what I'm planning on doing, 4" DP to single rear exit. get rid of the factory muffler and cat.


I took off my AFC today and have been playing with it, following this article:

Ive heard it mentioned to grind the foot of the arm as well, but keep the taper?

I just got back from post AFC mod test drive (I also slid my plate full forward). It seems to spool faster and accelerate faster as well. more smoke, still only 32psi boost, EGTs climb way faster, but max out at 1200 or so.

I cranked the star wheel away a turn and it smokes way less, doesn't quite spool as fast, but is still faster and EGT's only max at 1150 or so. All in all I'm happy.

I need to get another plate and boost elbow so I can get some more boost and a GSK.
