New to site- a couple of questions about new truck...

Hey guys, I'm new to this site, and have a couple of quick questions if anyone can help. I recently had someone total my '97 12 valve, and had to hustle to find another truck to get to work, etc... Ended up getting a '98.5 24 valve 3500 as I couldn't find another clean 12 valve in the area that was in my price range. I'm thinking I may end up just swapping in the 12 valve and tranny from my old truck, OR if the frame isn't too bad, I may fix the '97. However, in the meantime, my tranny in the new truck isn't cutting it, and is starting to slip already, so my first question is, can I swap the tranny/converter from my '97 right into my '98.5? I included the sigs for both trucks below. All mods on the 98.5 were made prior to purchase. I will hopefully be making some upgrades soon. My second question is, (as I am totally new to this electronic stuff) what are the better programmers on the market? I'm looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600hp in the near future with better injectors, programmer, and single turbo. I guess my initial plan is as follows (in this order):

-swap in Goerend tranny/converter (if possible)
-FASS or Airdog
- DDPs, F1s, or another quality injector (not familiar yet w/ 24 valve injectors)
- programmer(s)
- turbo, ARP studs, upgraded valve springs

valve body in the two is different and PCM wont like that. I may be wrong and I'm sure there is a way around it.
As far as mods, lift pump first, a "box" with gauges or gauges and a "box", then a 64ish turbo and 200hp injectors w/studs & springs.
Dont forget this truck has a KDP too and be sure it doesnt have a "53" cast on the block.
 
Yeah, the fuel pump (FASS or AIrdog) is #2 on my list after the tranny swap. Might even do it 1st. My little brother has a '99 and his VP44 went bad so we swapped in a FASS and II HotRod VP44. Was not cheap as I recall.

I have a set of autometer gauges on the pillar already, otherwise that would be one of the first mods I'd make.

So, any advice on what boxes/programmers make the best power? Which ones are capable of putting me in that hp range w/ injectors/turbo upgrade? I thought I read that Redline is the only box that will fuel to 4000 rpms....

ANd if I'm going to tab the KDP, I might as well go ahead and swap the cam!!! Hahahaha
 
Limited - Did you have any problems with the swap from the '96 or did it just swap straight in without any modifications or fabrication?
 
Redline fuels to 4k but not real street friendly. Quad ADR has done it for some, I have seen 4200RPM by accident when I thought I was in OD but wasnt. Drag comp always a popular choice. Or you could go with a stack like Smarty or EZ for timing with fuel only boxes like TST or AFB.
 
Quad ADR 2007 tune pulse was in default tune. Happened @ Lebanon valley. I dont normally push the truck over 3200, but I missed a shift to OD and held it to the floor. When it ran out of steam I looked down at the tack and nearly shat myself. Jumped off the throttle and went into OD, coasted the last 200'.
 
new ADR tunes definitely dont affect the rev limiter at all. still slams into 3600 and just stops.... useless... lol
 
Just slammed the 96' trans into the 99' as I recall with no issues. But it was my brothers truck so I'm not sure if there were any other problems, but I will ask.
 
for trans swaps check out pcs they make standalone controllers to make any trans bolt up to 12 or 24 valve im real happy with mine
