A longer story even longer, I replaced the vp44 on my 98 24v with a brand new one. Im still unable to get the truck run, or even fire. I had codes for a defective vp, and now I do not. When I replaced the VP I had the front cover off the motor so I was able to mark everything and reasemble everything, seeing it perfectly. If, somehow, I put it back together one, two, five or even twenty teeth off, wouldnt I have a trouble code of some sort for the vp? After hours of bleeding lines, it finally threw one code, for the crankshaft sensor, I cleared it, and it never came back. I have no boxes or any aftermarket "toys" plugged in right now. Everything is back to stock.....any ideas here would be great

I forgot, Im getting fuel from a Fass150, with 14.7 psi at the injection pump

Does the tach come up while cranking? It could be your TPS sensor out of calibration ...does it start with ether?

Tach goes up.....it wants to pop with a couple of shots of good john deer ether, but im working on it by myself so i dont have someone shooting ether and another turning the key. At this point that might be a good thing, Im getting frustrated and might put a little to much ether in there. No codes for the tps

First replace the crank sensor. Deere ether will break rings and other bad things so use only cheap ether from walmart. Remove the intake horn and grid heater. Stand in door, turn key with right hand, squirt ether with left hand through gap under open hood. While you're at walmart buying cheap ether don't forget to stop at sporting goods to buy an ether squirting license! If you forget the license Santa will not be able to deliver presents because his reindeer will be sleeping!

Good idea on the ether, I hope walmart can just add that stamp to my licence. Would there be a VP code if i was to have installed the the gear a couple of teeth off? And im 99.9% sure i didnt

it should toss a code if its way off, it will be a sensor mismatch code. do you have fuel from all the lines?

What was the purpose of having the front cover off? Did you do anything else of importance at the same time? It'd be a good idea to make sure the factory marks line up between the two gears and not just go by your own marks.

You got to tighten the injector lines so it starts. It can't start with fuel pouring out.

The reasonI had the front cover off was I did the leaking crank seal, and tabbed the dowel pin all`at the same time. It wasnt that big of a deal to get the front cover off, I figured what that heck as long as i had it rolled in the garage. When i said "its pouring fuel out" I have the lines tightend down, I only meant that I dont feel theres any air left in them. Also I used the new key, not the used one, and no I dont think its mashed everything went on really easy

really? how so?

80% ether. I've seen it! If you have a low compression pulling motor or a tractor thats addicted to ether then its the stuff to use. Otherwise use the cheap stuff...it's only 20-30% ether and on a motor with good compression you run less chance of damage.

Jabird there is still air trapped in the connector tubes and injectors. If the batteries are low you will never get it started. The engine must crank fast for the VP to push the air out. When I replace a VP I most always never crack the lines...I just do like I posted before and give it a mist of ether over the intake opening until it pushes the air out. Cheap ether is the key, you can hardly lock a motor on it and you don't need to worry too much about running the engine a few seconds on it until the air is out of the system. I've been doing it this way for years and have never broken any rings...and it sure beats a smoked starter! Put your right foot on the fuel pedal and hold it at 1/4 throttle while you're cranking the engine...this way you will know the instant the engine gets fuel and you can stop the ether.

I was thi king the same thing on the battery issue, they are both on trickel chargers while I am at work today. When I get home after work today I'll be able to start fresh. Thank for all the advise from everyone so far on this

Thank god it runs!!!! I cant thank LReiff and everyone else who called and helped me enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stopped cracking the lines and fogged it like LReiff suggested and it poped right off
