Hi! Just came over to the dark side. Picked up an '89 Ford F350 4x4 Crew Cab with a 7.3 IDI with a Banks Sidewinder setup on it, and a 5-spd for $1,000.00! Got it from a buddy who had a freeze plug come out of the rear of the engine and didn't have the facilities to fix it. He told me if I wanted it for a grand, come and get it. Well, I borrowed my dad's '03 Dodge and tilt bed beaver tail trailer and drove 3 hrs that afternoon to pick it up.

I know it won't stack up against the newer stuff, but it's a much heavier duty truck than my previous GMC 1500.

I would like some info, however, on simple things I can do myself to improve the power a bit (cold air intake, muffler removal, etc.). I don't know what I should expect as far as power goes, but I would like to be able to haul and pull decent loads without dropping to 35 mph up hills.

Thanks in advance for any input and for welcoming me to the forum.

Welcome to CompD! Sorry but I don't know much about the old IDI engines, but like any diesel I'm sure they like more air and fuel!
