I need some help. I was driving on the highway today and i was going up a fairly steep hill and all of the sudden lost all boost and my egts started going way up. the turbo still whistles and spins but its not building boost, the most boost i read was 1 to 5 psi. I didnt have the chip turned up or anything. just cruzing and didnt here a pop or anything either? all the boots on the intercooler appear to be in good shape, not torn or anything, none of them were popped off. I didnt have any codes tripped. the only thing i think might be is the wastegate might be stuck open but not sure how to tell by just looking at it?

Why do you have that feeling?

You should be able to reach back and see if it moves by hand. But, you should still get some boost.. the turbo will just be a complete dog.

I'm also putting my money on a boost leak. If the boots and clamps are all good, check the intake horn gaskets also. I would REALY check those boots again.. If you still can't find anything, pick up a boost leak tester and hook it up.

I hate to sound repetitive, but... check your boots. You didnt say what truck you have, but looking at your avatar, it looks like a 2nd gen. The boots have a tendency to rub where they go past the sheet metal. Where they rub you can't see them, but if you take your finger, and run them around the bottom side of the boots, I bet you will find a hole. When my truck was stock ( so many years ago ) I had it happen on the passenger side. Both sides can rub though. Remember the stock boots blow up like a ballon when under boost. They may not be rubbing with the truck off, but they will under boost.

ill check them again, my boost gauge was hitting any where from 1 to 5 psi, and when i floor it i hear the turbo spool up and i hear air blowing past something pretty loud. and the egts will jump up over 900 within a second or two and it is not smoking what so ever

With a boost leak that bad just start it up and pick up the RPMs by moving the throttle linkage under the hood. You will hear the leak and be able to find it.

Start it up and have someone else rev it a bit while you stand in front of the truck and listen for the "air leaking" sound you mentioned...

Thank you guys, it was one of the boots i went back and checked them all again and i saw one of them wasnt on all the way, pushed it back on tightened it up and it was good to go got plenty of boost now, thanks again!
