the cruise hasnt worked on my truck since i bought it, the fuse is good, the brake lights work so the brake light switch should be fine right? i was wondering whats most common on 2nd gens. is there any common problem on these, my guess was the clock spring thing in the column? does anyone know how to test/check it, or should i be looking for something else?

check for vac at the unit also because it's under the battery check for Corrosion at the plug

x2 on the vacuum pressure, i believe the earlier 2nd gen are also vacuum controlled cruise control.

I had to carefully take apart the controls on the steering wheel and bend some of the contacts and clean the crap out of the switches. And it is good to go now.

Jake, if the clockspring was bad you would also have an airbag light on and horns wouldnt work. make sure the vacuum line is hooked up all the way from the cowl to the cruise unit under the battery. Sometimes the cruise controller gets corroded and you can pull it apart and clean the plungers and springs in it.

Battery acid ate a hole in the servo and vac line on my '97. Replaced both, and it worked again. :)
