Ok so i had a transmisson in a truck rebuilt by a local shop. When i put the transmission back into the truck is shifts fine every gear untill you get to overdrive then it wont engage. Also it acts like it wants to float between the last two gear when you are not on the gas decelerating. Is this a TPS issiue and if so how do i check to fix it or see if its ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Hester

I would double check all the connections on the tranny. I was having the same problem and just wired in an OD switch. You can try that if everything is plugged in and has good connections. If you get to that point just give me a call.

ok thanks i have checked them time and time again maybe i can clean them good this time, does anyone else have any clue or ever had this problem??

Might pull the output speed sensor on the transmission. sometimes those get gunked up with metal fragments and don't read right.

Just noticed that you had it rebuilt. Have you taken it back to whoever did the rebuilding? If it's not working after they rebuilt it then they probably are the ones that need to fix it.

the internals are fine they have re checked two times after rebuilt. thats what leads me to think tps thats why i wondered if anyone had this problem before and what fixed it.

Have you checked that the voltage measured at the PCM matches the stamp on the TPS?

There is a check ball in the O/D, if that gets lost or stuck in the rebuild process, it can cause that condition. Also, a faulty O/D solenoid, or a stuck 3-4 shift valve could be the culprit. The O/D solenoid works when ground is applied. You could try to manually force O/D to see if its an electrical problem.

well i found a problem.. throttle cable is mengeled down to one little strand.. could this have caused the tranny problem and how easy is it to change one??

No, I don't think that is your problem.

The good news is that it is an extremely easy fix. The cable pops on up at the VP, and then through the firewall at the pedal. No tools required.

Ya its simple. Up until you try to wedge yourself under your dash to unclip it from the firewall.

well i got a new cable and im currently waiting to put it on when this 100 degree wether cools off a bit..

well after eating the gas pedel a vcouple times i got the cable on and still the issiue but here is what i have found it does. When your driving normal with the OD switch on it will act like its kicking in and out of gear when you run it up to 60MPH and are slowing. But, if you turn the switch off it does no do this.

So is this an issiue with the OD switch maybe??
