bro in law just got a new 5500 cab and chassis for a rack truck and it is gutless and only getting 7 MPH. Is this normal when new?
 
do they detune them because it is a comm/fleet vehicle Just found out ford detune there comm. cab and chassis trucks 100 HP.
 
Sorry, 7 MPG and gutless. Using it as a rack truck for welding company has 2 welders and equipment on it (heavy) but I think he should get better MPG.
 
What gears are in it? Most i've heard out of those trucks are around 12-15. If the dealer just reflashed it that could explain the crap mileage. I just got off the phone with a guy that said he was getting 22 then went back to the dealer and after the reflash he's getting 17.
 
I am sure they have low gears. He said he was running high RPM on the highway @ 65-70.That is prob. the reason for bad fuel milage.
 
high rpm + cummins = sh*t mileage

if its still got the emissions stuff, yank it.. that'll help mpg
