Hey. I got a bone stock 2001 dodge cummins. And while driving the tach fell to 0. And the check engine light came on. And drove for a mile or so and the tach started working again. Any ideas? I read where it could be cam sensor. No when the tach stopped that was the only problem. Truck ran fine. Just tach stopped. Thanks

Being the truck is a 2000, it probably has the cam sensor and also a crank sensor behind the starter. Probably a bad crank sensor, but you should have a code or be able to read with a scanner which sensor isnt sending a signal.

Will it give you the diagnostic codes with the key on-off trick?

I scanned it was P0341 cam sensor. Just pulled the sensor going to pick new one up in a bit. But no key trick only gave me a campanoin code or a p0136 or somethin like that. So I scanned it. And got cam sensor signal

Replaced cam sensor. Cleared code. Apps working normal again. Thanks guys.

glad it was that easy. there are several problems out there with harness' and clusters.
