Ok, almost have all my parts gathered for my Ford's engine.

Down to where Ive got a big list for snedge, mostly hart parts.

The problem is from what I remember the full gasket kit, bearings, and rings was over $600. Was told this weekend to just use regular old gaskets. This is a shop that build 1k hp trucks, so Im about convinced.

Anyone had a bad experience using Fel Pro gaskets, total seal rings, and clevite bearings?

I still plan on using a cummins head gasket, just seems to be way to much for what it is on the rest.

Thanks

I cant help you with the rings or the bearings but as far as the gaskets I have had nothing but good luck with them. Are you ready to go in as soon as you get the motor together or do you still have to pull the stroke out?

Chris

I personally think the cleavittes are some of the best bearings around total seal I know nothing around and felpro are good gaskets

i have had trouble with the fel pro side cover gasket being a little too big. ended up leaking so i got a cummins one. other than that i used their kit on my last 2 motors.

The stroker is out and gone, just need to go pick up my head, wait on the wrist pins to get here, and order some hard parts (oil cooler and such)

Hmmmm, interesting. Your talking about the 'tappett cover'?

I wonder if its not just because the gasket sets typically use the same gaskets for various apps. IIRC the 24v cover is slightly larger than the 12v, maybe they use the same gasket for both sets?

The total seal rings are a different tolerance than factory, I believe is .008 to .10 tolerance, so you will have to hone a little

yes the tappet cover. the gasket was definately bigger than the cover its self it was bad enough not to seal properly. i was afraid i had blowby issues but when i replaced the gasket it basically fell off. i was kind of worried about it when i put it on because it didnt want to sit in place. maybe just a fluke thing but ill use a cummins one from now on...

Block had 160k on it, had to have a sleeve installed, then honed all cylinders.

What is the factory and total seal tolerance?

Please don't quote me on this, but i wanna say

factory is like .006 to.008 and total seals are .010 to .012 or very close to that! they like a little more wabble room!

The seal kit isn't that much. I think you're talking a complete rebuild kit. It's very nice to go to the kit and have everything in one place. Much better than the alternative to stopping progress and waiting a day on the next gasket.

I used all clevite and Fel-pro. It was nice having the entire set of gaskets there and no sence cutting coroners on stuff like that!!!!!

Ive got nothing but time on this one.

I do need a complete gasket kit.

im using all felpro on mine.. it all added up to like 850 bucks

Quick google is $157

I need to check my connection tomorrow.
if you look at bouth gaskets they look identical and they are bouth stamped made in england felpro or cummins gaskets ,to me they look like te same gasket but sold under diferrent names

I will only use cummins gaskets and seals. The aftermarket ones always seem to be a problem
