Hi everyone just got my first diesel the other day. Everything has been awesome up until tonight. I was leaving a friends went to start the truck and it barley turned over very very slow. I turned it off then tried again and nothing no click nothing. Tried again and it still was weak but then acted like it found a second wind a started cranking and started right up. I could hear the pump running so I think it was getting fuel. My batteries need to be replaced I know that I'm working on that. Just wanted to know what any of you guys thought it could be lifter pump, or just not enough juice in batteries? Its a 2001 Dodge 2500

Any help is appreciated

slow starts can be due to low charged batteries, corroded battery cables. Clean all those connections on the battery posts and cables. At least then you're only out some time and a brush if you don't already have one. If that doesn't help, then take the batteries to get tested. I wouldn't buy batteries unless I was absolutely sure of the problem. It's too easy to spend a bunch of money :ylsuper:
