I am a sled puller and i was wanting some input on what i need to upgrade in my tranny so it dosent break and grenade my motor i already have the 1 3/8 input shaft from south bend and i don't plan on it ever being in 5th gear ever again so if you all have any ideas and where to get the parts to solve the problem it would be greatly appreciated thanks

Well I don't think you will whipe out your motor if the tranny goes?? You've done about everything you can. There isn't much you can do. The only other thing is having a spare one on the floor.

Trying to pull in 4th gear is a good idea if the truck is a track only truck, change your gearing so you can. 3rd gear is weak at moderate hp levels,2nd gear can be taken out with lot of hp,so 4th is the best bet for pulling. 4th Gear is not really the strongest but it locks the input shaft to the mainshaft without going through any gears and that is why it is the best for pulling.

Ike makes a good point. 5.88, 5.38, or 5.13 rears will get you where you need to be depending on hp and rpm you are running.

Is there a place that sells 5.88s for the dana 80 Id like to run them but 5.38 is the lowest i can find thanks Tony

Check Drive Train Specialists DTS they have everything you need. I would request that the gear set be Crio'd they hold up much better.JMO

no luck there 5.38 is as low as they go on that site anyway

no i mean 5.88 i think if a person wants to go lower they would have to go with a rockwell cause 5.38 is the lowest ive found for a dana 80
