I might be able to get my hands on an NV5600 and was wondering how tough it would be to swap it in place of my NV4500

bolt up swap except......

you need 98+ tranny crossmember with the slotted holes, and the driveshaft lengths will change

shorter for the rear shaft, longer for the front

dont think you are gaining strength by doing this swap, gearing is better for towing, but they both break

Keep the 4500, you'll be money ahead by buying a spare too if you can find one incase you have failure

Idk i did the swap and so far i'm rele happy with it...2 each his own i guess.

They're good transmissions, don't get me wrong, but when they break is when it hurts your wallet, that's why I stayed with a 4500

i believe the majority will tell you that unless your doing a lot of towing to just stay with the NV4500. yeah there is an extra gear but the final gear ratio at the output shaft is still the same.

really? that means there should be a real nice spacing then. Honestly I wouldn't mind if they made 1st a tad taller, kept 2nd where it's at, made 3rd a tad taller and 4th a tad lower, 5th a tad lower and a better OD gear being 6th.

does the g56 have the same final output on 6th as the nv5600

Here is what i found on all three transmissions. In my opinion for just driving around and towing here and there the NV4500 is fine. Especially if you plan on street racing or anything like that because the parts are cheaper for that trans also.

NV5600

Gear Ratio
1st 5.63
2nd 3.38
3rd 2.04
4th 1.39
5th 1.00
6th 0.73
R 5.63

NV4500

Gear Ratio
1st 5.61
2nd 3.04
3rd 1.67
4th 1.00
5th 0.75
R 5.61*

G56

The ratios of the new G56 are a tad lower than the 5600 as well - the 5600 number is first, then the G56:

1st - 5.63 - 6.29
2nd - 3.38 - 3.48
3rd - 2.04 - 2.10
4th - 1.39 - 1.38
5th - 1.00 - 1.00
6th - 0.73 - 0.79
Rev - 5.63 - 6.29

thanks, now I want the g56... those low 1st and reverse it has must be nice... instead of having my dual disc shutter trying to slip reverse.

I didn't think LOW and reverse were the same gear ratio though... interesting
