I was running my truck thru the gears hard and went to shift into 5th and felt something brake as it went into gear. It now has no 5th gear but all other gears work and so does reverse. We had the trans out last week and checked the 5th gear nut so I know it's not that. Could it be a fork or something like that? What you guys think?

I'm guessing this is your problem.

The good news is it can be fixed w the trany in the truck probably.

Can you please tell me what I'm looking at here and what's the best way to find out if that is what's wrong. Or maby the tale tale signs of what you think is wrong.

i looked a a few other threads and it sounds like what you guys are saying the 5th gear clutch gear/ o/d clutch gear. what causes this to brake? also is there a stronger replacement part i could buy? thanks for the help guys.

i havse called a few trans shops in town and they are not helpful at all. does any one know the part # and i will call the dealer ships. i know its a long shot but im not paying $690 for a shop to brake my trans more than it is lol

call future transmission and talk to them thats where i got all my trans parts heres the # 1-800-635-2877

Pulled the Tail housing off tonight. Not the problem I wanted! I broke the counter shaft right infront of the 5th gear clutch gear. Dose any one know what causes this? Is it a horsepower or shifting problem that caused it?

Horsepower and lugging the engine in 5th will do it. Or stabbing it before the turbo is lit and then BOOM when it lights.

does anyone make a stronger shaft than stock? or who should i call to get one? quad4x4.com wants $499 for a stock one but this one is only $198 http://www.enterpriseengine.com/display_part/563.php i dont know what one would be stronger. any ideas guys?
The $200 counter shaft should be fine, I've used them without any issues. Replace the synchro cone while you're in there because it most likely got stressed when the shaft broke...you'll replace it later if not now. Also, if you don't already have it get the wide snap ring to replace the thin piece of chit that retains the synchro cone.

i ordered one like this all i do is tow with mine no more 5th gear problem it was $200
The main shaft is not the problem here but an updated version is a must to hold high torque!
