I have been working on my NV4500 for project SRT-4b lately. When Wally with FTE found out that we wanted to reduce drag in the trans, he offered to give me a demo on his gear treatment. I sent in my gears and my 1 3/8 input for the polishing process. I have to admit I am always skeptical of coating and polishing services, but he assured me I would be made a believer. After only a couple days of having the gears, he sent them back. Upon opening the box I was surprised to say the least. All the gears and shafts looked almost chrome and all of the burs and rough edges had been smoothed out. I am assembling it tomorrow so I will keep you up on how the build goes, data as far as parasistic drag and mainly operating temps. Which are a good measure of friction. Here is some pics.

Send him the rear gears next.

Looks good. I was skeptical years ago on the coatings, but after some years experience using them, I am a firm believer in their multi benifits.

Do you know what process he uses?
 
I believe it is called REM. Surface electro-chemical polishing not necessarily a coating. I can't wait to assemble and check drag. If I can get the new paddle shifter for this trans , I might be able to hang with some of the autos!

How much does he charge? Is there a website?:poke:
 
Most of the parts except the input Shaft were used to the tune of 150,000 miles. I was just careful to clean them well before I sent them.
 
We process new and used parts, but you need to realize we are not inspecting your used stuff for integrity... so you need to be real about what you process. Why put money into something that already has a poor profile.

The process is not a coating, it is an improvement to the existing surface. Also, it is a chemical process that works on .0001 surface not altering part hardness or strength. It simply reduces friction and parasistic drag... this reduces operating temps, vibration, and most importantly recovers horsepower.
 
I just built up the 4sped NV4500 for the SRT4b build. After assembly I have to say it takes about half of the force to turn it as it use to take. I am about to fire the 4b up so I will have some more data soon. When you are starting with a 4cyl and you want to compete with 6cyl engines you have to get all of the HP back that you can! BTW it was around 2 bills to get most of the gears done. Had I known it would have been such a nice finish I would have sent my shafts and bearings.
