Cruising down intersate at 70mph, empty trailer behind me. Then this.

Any ideas? This is the small main shaft gear, first one inside the box behind the input. 5th gear (I think, last gear on main shaft in tail housing) also had a broken tooth.

Ordered a reman from midwest trans today.

im going to go with torque as the cause. just because it broke then, doesnt mean it wasnt on its way out the last time you put 1000lb/ft through it.

looks exactly like mine when I fried mine!

mine ended up doing it because the fluid was low, and it burned up what was in it, and then fried the tranny because it was dry. Dad took it to michigan, and it fried on the way home from there.

Fluid was a bit low, but I don't think low enough to be the main cause. It was starting to grind into 3rd occasionally. This was a good excuse for a rebuild. LOL
