does anyone know what type of fluid i can run without having to go to a dealer is there anything i can run that wont mess up syncros that i can get at my local parts store

It has to be a GL-4 rated synthetic, NOT GL-5. I used the Pennzoil version of it for years. But all the exotic brands make it too.

I have allways used Synthetic 75/90 gear lube. Never had a problem with it. I have used it in several over the years.

Amsoil syncromesh, or ac delco makes it to.
If your interested for amsoil we can get you taking care of.

Redline MT-90 works fine. They actually say to use a 50-50 mix of MTL and MT-90, but straight MT-90 works just fine.

synchromesh

14 bucks at my local chevy dealer, 25 bucks at my dodge dealer, thats a qt. amsoil and purple drink oil were same price as dodge dealer, so...

True story there too. Chevy nv4500 oil is exactly the same as dodge oem oil. Just rebadged.

It's Castrol SYNTORQ. Available from Dodge or GM. GM is cheaper. I don't know of any other brand such as Pennzoil that produces it.

Amsoil MTG is half the price of the Syntorq. It's made specifically for the NV4500.

Both of those fluids are GL-4. GL-5 fluids contain additives that will attack the clutch material on the syncros in the NV4500.

Thanks Scott for info on other fluids. We rebuilt several nv4500 with just gear oil in them.

Redline MTL and MT-90 are $12.95 a quart at a local speed shop.

I just looked on their site, and they now list a new product called MT-85, and it says "Many NV4500 truck transmission applications like Chevy Silverado and Dodge Ram, for Chrysler spec MS-9070". So, you don't even have to buy 2 quarts of MTL and 2 of MT-90 anymore ;)

Amsoil Syncromesh is for the NV5600 Jordan. ;)

Someone quoted you Amsoil @ retail then, there are ways to purchase Amsoil at wholesale cost.

Home run Scott!:Cheer:

I think Jordan just left out a comma and had the Syntorq name confused. I read it like this:

Possibly?

I was thinking he has this GL5

confused for this GL4 though...?

My appologies Jordan, if I'm wrong.
