Got an 01 dodge with the nv4500 5spd in it. Recently i had to have the new updated 5th gear nut replaced. the other night on the way home from work it lost 5th gear again. Guy i talked to about it said he didnt think the nut should of backed off again since it had the keepers on it or thats what he told me. I was needing some ideas on what mite of happend. Could the nut back off again? Or could it be the spline gear below fifth? Its not makin any grinding noise or rattleing noise when you drive it. And when it went out again it didnt make any noise the motor just reved up. Can you guys help me with this one

My buddy has had the "Updated" 5th gear nut back off twice. After that he tack welded the nut to the threads of the shaft. No problems for 2 years now.

Ok thanks. No the clutch is good in it. It was holdin good when it happend n it held good in fourth gear. Its been replaced tho with an aftermarket one!

Pull it out and have the mainshaft replaced with a fully splined one an# new 5th gear. I did and haven't had any problems since.

I've helped tack weld two of them. It won't move after that. $.02

When i drop mine to put my clutch and input in i will be tacking mine

Yea thats most definatly texan. If its got to be welded i wil be the one doin it. I weld on tow boats for a job so i could prolly handle this!

Let's just say that you shouldn't break out the stick welder. :hehe: I've got a 220V mig that does the trick.
