hello ive got the truck in my sig, im lookin to swap to a 6 speed. what all will i need? this is what im thinkin might need to be done but not sure. new 6 speed tranny, new bbellhousing, new clutch,. i dont know if im gonna need a different t-case or hydraulics for the clutch? will i need a new crossmemer or anything else? i dont want to have to worry about the 5th gear in my tranny comin loose or the small input shaft plus it might e cool to have that extra gear? thanks

Im currently working on swapping a six speed into my 95. Your correct about new bellhousing, and new clutch. You will need a new crossmember i believe as the new trans is approx 5 inches longer than the 5 speed. possibly newer trucks might already have the right crossmember as the one i have for the six speed is wide and looks to have holes for both trannys. Clutch hydraulics should be fine. T-case should be fine. You will need to have front shaft lengthened and rear shortened. Also a starter spacer as the six speed flywheels move the ring gear forward a bit. I am not sure what guys are doing for shifters but im going to try and swap the whole floor console in out of the newer truck. I know the t-case shifter is different, it bolts to the floor in newer trucks and to the side of the tranny on the old five speeds. May take some hacking on the floor to get this done, im not sure. Imo best bet is to find a whole wrecked truck with a six speed to get all the parts.

Hope this helps, Josh

The 6 speed bellhousing is part of the case for the tranny unlike the 5 speed. Hydros are the same. You will not need a starter spacer unless you buy a 6 speed flywheel. The 5 speed one will work with the 6 speed tranny. 94-97 might need a new crossmember but my 98 12v did not. It takes the wider crossmember. The transfercase is alittle different. Since the 94-97 shift lever bolts to the tranny, i dont think the 6 speed has the bolt holes to mount the lever. This might take some ingenuity. The easiest and cheapest fix would be to put the fully splined mainshaft, SBC 1 3/8 input shaft and the updated fifth gear nut for yor 5 speed. We dont have any problem out of ours with 600 to 700 horse.

i had a 99 that a nv5600 swapped into it... i couldnt afford to rebuild it but was able to get an nv4500... pulled the 6spd out.. put the 5spd in. simple as that. used the clutch that was in it cause the 5spd had a big input.. just had to get the drive shafts from the 5spd truck cause the trans its self is shorter than the 6spd.

way too much involved sounds like, i think i will just do the updated mainshaft, 5th gearnut and the big input. thanks
