this morning on my way to school i stop at a red light, take off like normal and when i hit 5th its like i put it in netrual... whats the prob? 5th gear nut was supost to be fixed when i broke the input shaft couple months ago.... any ideas?

Its only 5th Jordan you can still drive it until you get a chance to fix it.

Hell I lost 5th in my 97 20 miles south of Louisville one time on my way to Ashland Ohio.....

That was a LOOONNNNGGG trip! LoL :bang

The gear will ride from Kearney, NE to Santa Anna, CA, plus its only a couple hour fix as long as u have oil handy and order all the parts. If you can swing it, I'd recommend one of the slip on retainers on top of a new nuts.

lol i know im still driveing it was jw what ideas were onwhy it would have broke. im not hard on stuff, lol last month we fought with input shAfts brakeing now? its everything else....

Maybe it could be the clutch. A 3800# clutch seems like it could put a little more force on a tranny than a factory single disc. Instead of that little bit of slipping when you let the clutch out its either engaged or not engaged. Just a thought. Not sure if thats what really caused the problem

still limping it around with a top speed of about 50 mph 55 if i stand on it but evts get warm, ill update with pics when i take the trans out in a coulle weeks

my brouther has a 99 5 spd edge comp 150hp injectors and a 64mm s300 and he spun the set screw out of it nearly 250 miles from home he seaid its a wonder he didnt blow the head off trying to get it home becaues with 3:55 gears 55-60 mph is 2400 rpm and his turbo was building about 50psi the entire way home.....

There is a new style main shaft that prevents this problem. Most new rebuilt units come with one. I would weld the one you have and when the whole Trans goes just exchange with an updated version.

things came up this weekend ill get it this week.. have the truck traded for a ford ranger that happens to come with a 4bt in the bed... ill keep comp d updated when i do the swap

truck is at the shop geting 5th gear nut welded on going to make it to terra haute this fall woop woop!

FYI - I tried that method before and didn't control the heat properly because the shaft snapped. I was still able to drive the truck though. It snapped right in the middle of 5th gear. Basically 5th gear was spinning the wheels because it engaged the splines on one side and had my weld on the other. I know you probably have it done by now, but still wanted to let you know. I ran 7018 and I think around 70-80 amps DCEP.

when we got into it, gess what we found..... the nut... still in place!!!!!!! my mind is blown.... ive got the truck traded so i wont have to mess with takeing the transmisson out of it agin..... im tired of working on it thats all i do drive for 3-4 weeks then work on it and its not like a 5-700 hp truck if it was i could understand and tolerate it. the truck has a 65hp bully dog torque dog on it, thats a whole 35 or 65 hp jump. with a 550hp single disk clutch.

That is weird. I guess you didn't rip into it to look at the splines right?
