I want to change the fluid out in my nv5600. I went to a Dodge dealer to find out how much the fluid is. $19.85/quart. What other options are there? And is there a filter I need to get or anything else? I am guessing I can just remove the pto cover and drain it that way. What kind of rtv should I use to reseal it? Oh yeah. One more thing How much does it take? Thank in advance. T.

Just pull the bottom bolt from one side to drain the fluid, once it's drained then you can pull the cover to get the last little bit and look for anything screwy. Fluid type is a good question, I have heard of folks running ATF to Amsoil with good results, of the aftermarket options I would choose Amsoil. Remove the shifter to pour the fluid in, takes 4.5 quarts I THINK!, don't quote me on that please. Once you get it topped up and the check level plug back in, add one more quart of fluid, supposed to help shifting.

I could find anything else. no filter. 4 qt. i think, can remember. any good dealer will take a quart back if so buy 5. and Yea its a little pricey. yes through the PTO cover:blahblah1:

I guess i was a little late. I checked w/ Amsoil they told me they couldnt match it up.

Yeah amsoil has it: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mtf.aspx

Ditto on pulling the bottom bolt. You will need some rtv to seal the shift tower back to the trans or it is possible that it will leak. I overfilled by 2 qts - checked the fill with the plug then put two more in.

Hope this helps.

Ive changed my fluid twice in the 60k that ive owned the truck. Both times was with the Mopar fluid using 6 qts. each time. I also used a magnet in through the PTO cover to get out any metal shavings that might not have came out while draining.$.02

Jack up the driver's side. Drain from the passenger side. Refill from the drivers side. or vise versa.

I've used amsoil for the last two changes (50k each)

It looks brand new when it comes out.

The transfer case fluid on the other hand, does not.

Is it just a basic MTL or what? I have a local amsoil dealer that could get the stuff right to my door if i gave him the right info...

It is 5w-30 manual transmission synchromesh fluid. The I posted above should take you right to it.

redline mtl here...made a world of difference in how smooth it shifts! i wont use anything else now.

I used amsoill in my 05 and just got a fluid pump and took one of the top bolts and pumped it back in that way. it didnt shift any worse but not a whole lot better. whoever said they didnt make the amsoil was wrong

I got it all changed out, but I only got about 5 and a 1/2 quarts in it. That is through the regular fill hole and the top pto bolt. One think that kinda worried me was that I can't find a magnet anywhere on the drivers side. Could it have possibly slid back or something?
