ok so I just swapped my auto for a used nv5600 that I got off ebay. I put 6 quarts of Pennzoil Synchromesh in it. It would grind into 6th every time unless i rev match it just perfect. So I drained it out and found a few big chunks of metal stuck to the magnet. Also a lot of sludge stuff on the bottom and quite a bit of gold colored particles. Anyway I cleaned it out the best I could and filled it up with7 quarts of Amsoil MTF hoping it would help. Still grinds into 6th. I'm assuming the syncro is toast? Sucks cause the tranny was supposed to be in good shape.

I am also noticing that the trans makes a lot of racket at lower rpms, like 1200 or so. like a loud rattle sound. Is this normal or is it screwed?

depends on what you paid for it, I'd say time for bearings and syncros
it's got to have a lottttt of miles

Whipps, I just overhauled my NV5600 before trading it off for my 47 setup... It was a low miles tranny but I tore some teeth off of 6th gear. Call up Monte at Bluementhals MFG once you get it apart to see what parts you need. I was $220 in for a new main shaft 6th gear, reverse sensor and main shaft bearing that I thought I'd need. A case of beer to my fab guy for making me a reassembly tool and $100 to Ernie at the shop for staying late and helping me put it back together... good luck buddy.

well the tranny is an 01 and the guy said it had like 160,000 on it. I emailed him and he said that he didnt notice anything wrong with it before he pulled it. I paid $1900 for it. So I guess I'm screwed.

Krazeeun how hard it it to replace syncros? I heard you have to have a huge press to get bearings and stuff off?

I'm not sure buddy, my tranny guy replaced the gears on the shaft while i was at my big boy job, by the time I got to the shop he had the new gear/bearing on with the two shafts bolted to the tool I had made and all I helped do was drop everything back together. If you're interested in shipping it this way I can ask my tranny guy if he's interested in a side job for another 5600 overhaul.

Otherwise.... call Monte at blumenthals for parts/advice... i've had to call him a bunch throughout the years
