Hey Guys. I feel like this is a dumb question but where is the drain plug?? I have been all over this trans and not able to find a plug that could possibly be a drain plug. Also fill plug?

What are you guys running in your NV5600? Is 90 weight with Lucas not a good idea? I was told ATF +4 for for my transfer case?

Thanks

The drain is the lowest bolt in the PTO cover. I use the one on the driver's side.

The fill plug is a 17mm allen on the driver's side.

I recommend Amsoil Manual Synchromesh Trans fluid for the 5600.

I always use OEM mopar fluid. About $20 bucks a qt although other oil manufactures make fluid for them as well.

Damn I was afraid it was that Allen bolt on the drivers side. Thats going to suck! How many quarts?

The subject of how many quarts in a NV5600 has come numerous times...
Some say 5, some say 6, I've even heard 8.
Something about the back bearing does not get the proper amount of lubrication and to over fill it.
I went with 6 quarts of Amsoil MTF

IIRC fill to the plug, then put the plug in and dump a quart in from the top.

Hmm. Wonder where you heard that? LOL

I said 5 quarts because I didn't want the OP to try and put 6 in through the fill hole.

For what its worth, I ran 7 qts for 100k in my 5600 without any problems. I drained it, and it looked only slightly cloudy compared to new. I refilled with 6 qts.

I run Amsoil MTF in both my Nv5600 6 qts put all down in the shifter I only pull fill plug to see if there is oil in the trans every oil change.

What exactly is this Amsoil Manual trans fluid? What is so special about it.
I am a big fan of Lucas products my self. I have lucas every where in my DD and in my toy. My father runs 3 parts 50 weight synthetic trans oil with 1 part Lucas oil treatment in his semis. Has been doing it for years with no trouble.

In the NV5600 and nv3500(Jeep), the Synchros are Brass lined, which requires a Synchromesh or basically a fully synthetic 5w-30 motor oil, otherwise they will break down from the extreme pressure from a heavy gear oil.

I did some research a long time ago on all this and actually found some studies performed, and they found that mobil 1 5w-30 met the same lubrication requirements as synchromesh, although I haven't ever tried it...

A few companies make synchromesh such as Penzoil, redline, Mopar (penzoil or valvoline not sure, and amsoil which is #1 in synthetics in the racing inudustry.... who really knows if its that much better, but they are known for some of the best products.

Prior to Amsoil having the synthetic MTF, they recommended the HDD(I think it was the HDD) 5-30W full synthetic.
